Common Mistakes in Buying Wig

The first step in using a wig is purchasing one! Wig shops stock man different colors, types and styles so you may find yourself confused the first few times you visit, It helps a lot to familiarize yourself with wig types, designs, part styles, and materials before you even set foot in the store. Think before you buy and be careful to avoid some of the common pitfalls.

Almost all of us end up having at least one of these harrowing experiences in our cosplay careers, so do your best to learn from the mistakes of others. In order to avoid mistakes, it is best to decide on your wig style, material, length and cut beforehand.

Here are some common mistakes in buying wig:

1. The wig is too short
~> Be sure to check the length of all parts of the wig you intend to buy. Be sure to purchase a wig long enough to use for the longest-part of the style you want to achieve.

2. The real color is different than the picture
~> People often make this mistake when buying online. Color examples and photos aren't always the best indicator of a wig's actual look but most shops sell sample swatches or have real stores where you can see the colors in person.

3. I thought I'd dye it but.... it won't dye
~> Quite a few low-end synthetic wigs can't be dyed with traditional hot-water dying methods. If you want to dye a wig, you ought to buy a heat-resistant wig.

4. When i used a dryer, the hair melts!
~> This sad story is all too common when people fail to check the material of their wigs. Regular synthetic wigs melt under high temperatures. Please handle them with care and only apply low heat.

Crossplay Techniques and Tips

Another tutorial! But this time it's for cross-playing :) For those people who wants to cross-play here are some of the tips that could help you in cross-playing.

Beginner's Level
This tier is for those just beginning cross-play or who are interested in getting started soon. Here we'll introduce basic tips for "pulling off" a male costume.

Use Shoulder Pads to Bulk Up!
"I've got wimpy shoulders, so I always use pads! I don't just put them in my undershirt either, but in shirts and jackets too." Some people are sticklers for details ~ if you haven't got the upper body of a man, you may not pass.

Watch the Shape of Your Heel When Choosing Shoes!
"Thin-heeled boots throw off the balance of your body. With thin heels, you'll have a delicate footstep and an appearance that's distinctly feminine." When you buy boots, be sure to choose ones with a heel that will suit your costume. We recommend fat, flat heels on chunky platforms.

Choose Underwear that Won't Show Through Your Costume!

"I was wearing a transparent over-shirt one day and didn't realize it. I thought I was passing well and took a ton of photos. But after looking forward to them... when they came out, you could see my camisole in all of them!! (tears)" Light-colored uniform shirts, light grey or tan pants, etc can be transparent! If you think your underwear might show through your costume, be sure to match your camisole and underpants to your costume or choose flesh tones undergarments. If you're binding, remember to match your binder or to use flesh-toned tapes.
